Brain Cancer

Brain Cancer is the growth of malignant tumors (mass) in the brain. Cancer is a term reserved for  tumors. As with most other cancers, if the cancer originate in the brain, it is a primary cancer. If it has originated in another part of the body, it is called a secondary cancer, or metastasis. The most common primary brain tumors are gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, vestibular schwannomas, and primitive neuroectodermal tumors (medulloblastomas). About 25% of tumors elsewhere in the body metastasize to the brain.

Bone Cancer

There are several types of bone cancer. Primary bone cancer is cancer that forms in cells of the bone. Some types of primary bone cancer are osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Secondary bone cancer is cancer that spreads to the bone from another organ. Bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue in the center of most bones.  Bone marrow cancers that start in the blood forming cells of the bone marrow include: Leukemia, Lymphomas, and Multiple Myeloma.

Breast Cancer

The types of breast cancer vary. Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is the earliest possible clinical diagnosis of breast cancer detected by small areas of calcification. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma is the most common invasive breast cancer, accounting for 70 percent of all cases. Infiltrating lobular carcinoma accounts for about 5 percent of all malignant, invasive cancers. It occurs most frequently in women between the ages of 45 and 56.

Childhood Cancers

Childhood cancer is not a single disease - there are many types. Leukemias account for about 33%. Brain and other nervous system cancers are the second most common, at about about 21%. Wilms tumor (starts in the kidneys) accounts for about 5% of childhood cancers. Hodgkin lymphoma (cancer in the lymph tissues) can occur in both children and adults, and accounts for about 4%. Rhabdomyosarcoma (muscle cancer) makes up a little more than 3% of childhood cancers.

Gynecologic Cancers

Types of cancer affecting a woman's reproductive organs are referred to as gynecologic cancer.

Leukemia & Lymphoma

Leukemia is a malignant disease (cancer) of the bone marrow and blood. Lymphoma is the name for a group of blood cancers that develop in the lymphatic system.

Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer. There are two main types of lung cancer: small cell lung cancers (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC).

Mesothelioma

Pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of mesothelioma, a rare cancer that develops in the lungs. It is almost solely caused by exposure to asbestos, which was used in everything in children’s toys, house-hold insulation, and naval carriers.

Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm of the pancreas and is one of the deadliest of all types of cancer. Those with the greatest risk are people over 50 with two or more relatives who have had pancreatic cancer, cigarette smokers, those Ashkenazi Jewish descent, and those who have the BRCA2, p16, STK11 gene mutation or chronic pancreatitis.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a common, but typically slow growing cancer when compared to other types of cancer. Its growth is fed by, and generally depends on male hormones.

Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine cancer. There are several types of thyroid cancer: papillary, follicular, medullary, anaplastic, and variants.
